Our Mission is to provide residents of Central Florida with access to state-of-the-art care in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine; utilizing new technology and keeping current with trends in health care. We strive to improve the overall wellness and the quality of life of our patients by focusing on healthy lifestyles, encouraging self-management of chronic diseases and providing timely assessment and therapy for acute illnesses.
For more than 30 years,Pulmonary Disease Specialists, PA has earned the confidence and trust of patients and their referring physicians in several counties throughout Central Florida. Our providers are currently participating in critical care programs at Florida Hospital Kissimmee and Osceola Regional Medical Center. Our physicians are proud to be a part of the critical care programs as they collaborate with other providers in the community.
In 2000, our practice opened Central Florida Sleep Centers in Kissimmee and Davenport Florida. Our sleep center is unique in its interdisciplinary approach to treating sleep disorders. In 2008, Pulmonary Disease Specialists PA, began a Clinical Trials Division; PDS Research. Our physicians are striving to advance care through clinical research and contribute to the development of novel treatment options for patients with pulmonary and sleep disorders. Joseph Ameh ,MD
Dr. Ameh has been with our practice since 2006 and offers more than 10 years of experience. He has been a member of the following medical societies: the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Ameh is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He received his internal medicine training from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine program in New York and then completed a pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine fellowship at UMDNJ in New Jersey. He is the medical director of the Intensive care unit (ICU) at Florida Hospital, Kissimmee.

Adam Griggs, DO
Dr. Griggs has been evaluating and treating patients with sleep disorders in Central Florida for more than 20 years. He is currently as the Vice President of Pulmonary Disease Specialists, PA and serves as the Co-director of Central Florida Sleep Centers. Dr. Griggs is Board Certified in Pulmonary Diseases, Internal Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He has been a member of the following Medical Societies: Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Member of the American Thoracic Society, Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Member of the American Osteopathic Association.
James Lucio, MD
Dr. Lucio has been with our practice since 2003 and offers more than 20 years of experience. He has been serving as the Medical Director for Central Florida Sleep Centers for 10 years. Dr. Lucio is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He is a member of the following Medical Societies: Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Florida Medical Association, the Florida Thoracic Society, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Lucio has serves as Secretary of the Medical Staff and Director of ICU at some of the hospitals in Central Florida.

Rhoderick Nazario, MD
Dr. Nazario has been with the practice since 2002. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He has served as the Director of ICU, Chairman of Performance Improvement Core Measure Committee, a member of the credentials committee, and Director of Respiratory Care Services at several hospitals in Central Florida. Dr. Nazario is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Thomas O’Brien, MD
Dr. O'Brien has been a pulmonologist serving in Central Florida for more than 20 years with more than 25 years of experience. He currently serves as President of Pulmonary Disease Specialists, PA and is the Principal Investigator of PDS Research Center. He has served as Medical Director of Respiratory Services, Chairman of the Medical Staff and Chief of Medicine at several hospitals in Central Florida. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, and the American College of Physicians, the Florida Medical Association, and the Osceola County Medical Society.
Viral Patel, MD
Dr. Viral Patel attended Smt. N.H.L Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, India and received his Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S) degree. He then traveled to Pennsylvania to study Masters in Public Health. After his degree in Masters program, he completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Patel received his Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Patel’s ambitions didn’t stop there; he further attended University of Florida, Gainesville for his Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, graduated in 2017.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Patel firmly believes,” accurate diagnosis is the most crucial step towards helping patient heal; with precise diagnosis a good recovery is far more likely.”
Zainab Syed, MD
Susan Metcalf, ARNP
Susan Metcalf has been with our practice for more than 10 years and offers more than 20 years of experience. Susan has worked as a trauma nurse for as well as an ICU nurse for several years prior to working in a private practice setting. She is board certified in Adult Health by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is Critical Care certified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She has been a member of the following medical societies: American College of Chest Physicians, Space Coast Clinicians Group, New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, Richmond County Nurses Association, Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Assistants, American Society of Forensic Nurses, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, New York State Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.
Rosita Rodriguez, ARNP
Rosita Rodriguez is an ARNP who completed her undergraduate studies at the University of PR, Medical Science Campus where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Her passion for patient care moved her to complete her Masters of Science in Nursing with a role as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at Florida Southern Collage.
Rosita has had more than 21 years of critical care experience. She had worked at Florida Hospital for 14 years as an intensive care nurse leader and as a part of the team for Rapid Responses.
Outside working as a health care provider, Rosita loves spending time with her family and enjoys gardening. She's married and is the proud mother of 2 exceptional kids.
She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Marilyn Velez, ARNP
Marilyn has been a nurse for over 20 years with well-rounded experience in direct patient care ranging from intensive care nursing to long term care and has worked in pulmonary medicine since 2008. She completed graduate studies and was certified/licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner in July 2015. She enjoys spending time with her family including her husband, children, and grandchildren. She is passionate about making a difference in health care and dedicates some of her free time to volunteering in a community based free clinic for individuals who do not have health care coverage.
Alfredo Lisboa, ARNP
Alfredo Lisboa is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He initially completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arecibo in 2009 being awarded with the medal for Academic Excellence. Graduated with Honors at Florida Southern College as ARNP in 2016 and eventually joining Pulmonary Disease Specialists. His work experience includes a critical care background, rapid response team in chronic and acute medical scenarios. His commitment and compassion for patient care is what distinguish his clinical practice; being proud of serving our community at Central Florida.
